Interior of the shop's one room — original wood floors, a west-facing window, late afternoon light.

The room, in late afternoon.

The shop is one room — about 600 square feet, on the ground floor of a 1920s building on Hayes Street. The wood floors are the originals: narrow, a little uneven, warm underfoot. There's a west-facing window that catches the afternoon light in a way we never get tired of.

Marlow & Moss is a small women's boutique in Hayes Valley, opened in 2019, the year Marlowe Reyes came home from ten years as a fashion editor in New York. She'd spent a decade on someone else's magazine and wanted to make a smaller thing her own.

The name is borrowed. "Marlow" for her grandmother, "Moss" for her first dog.

  • Natural fibres — linen, wool, silk, leather.
  • Small studios — one or two people, a single room.
  • Fair prices — what the work costs to make, and what the maker needs to live on.
